Mine is a zenki also... though I'd like to convert to kouki at some point too
does the engine in yours tilt back like that too? Also does the back of the engine clear the Heater Valve on yours?
I almost wish he sent me the V1 kit since the "spacers" on the V2 mounts wont exactly cushion anything... they might as well be solid mounts
looking at pictures of other S14 engine bays with the V1 kit... it looks like the engine sits completely different than it does in mine. |

well, even if the kit fit I think we'd have to pull it back out anyway as there are a few spots on the tunnel that, while aren't rubbing, don't offer enough clearance... for instance the reverse light sensor... it would be impossible to plug it in as it is now. also the clutch lines are a little cramped and I'll have to do more hammering to run them the way that I want to run them.
it will also make installing the headers much easier also, as we'll drop the engine out the bottom and that will allow us to install the headers outside of the car.

| I was able to use a large prybar to adjust areas like that. If you do that, just be gentle with it. You don't need a lot of force to bend that sheet metal, but I would still use a large pryber since the contact area is larger and you're less likely to break through the sheet metal.

I heard back from Rich today
in regards to the transmission cross member
| Quote: |
| Ok i have had only 1 issue with this problems. I have a jig/fixture that holds it where it suppose to be when i weld it. the only thing that could have happend is it could have moved a bit. What i will do is make you another one and send it out. I have redesigned the transmission crossmember actually... i make it wher ethe transmission gets mounted another 3/4 higher so make the angle better and make the throttle body go down farther in engine bay for hood fitment also. |
in regards to the oilpan hitting the cross member on the passenger's side:

The pictures you provided is pretty normal... the clearances truthfully have always been really close. Im sorry for that if its a little to close for you. what you can do is take subframe out and take a grinder to it to gain some more clearances. What i have also done is you take the poly/plastic motor mounts and cut them down to get the motor to lower a bit more to your liking. This will also give you more hood clearance. There is only so much we can do because of the oil pan hitting the steering rack.
The subframe stock have slits in them so you can get a pry bar between oil pan and notched subframe and get motor level. |
in regards to the hood-clearance
| Quote: |
| The hood clearances is what i have been working on this week. there are some people that have been complaining.. weird some people dont say anything and some do.. im glad i know this has been a issue because i have been able to correct the angles and heights as much as possible. I can send you some modified mounts and a new transmission crossmember to correct your issues. |
in regards to the heater valve
| Quote: |
| ok as far as the heater valve i was un aware of this issue. with motor droped a bit in front and transmission raised you think it will get enough clearance ? if not can it be relocated and extend the metal cable that opens and closes the valve ? The alternator will fit up fine.. as well as a a/c pump if you want. |
so it sounds like he's going to send me a new trans cross member and engine mounts.
The Fujii guys said that they wouldn't have time to help out on this again until next Sunday at the earliest... we'll see how this all goes.

Cleaning up the garage last night I noticed something...
the OEM transmission cross member that came out of my 240 had round bolt holes on one side and oval holes on the other... the oval holes were side to side to allow for transmission tunnels of slightly varying width...
Interestingly enough the Daft Transmission cross member has oval holes that go front to back... I'm assuming because the location of the transmission cross member in relation to the engine mounts isn't precise... however it doesn't leave any room for variations side to side like the OEM cross member does.
If Nissan saw a need for a wide tolerance side to side and if my car happens to be on the high end of that and the Jig used by Daft Innovations was built on the low end of that, there is definitely enough room in there for his part to be built to his spec and my car to be built to Nissan's Spec and the parts not fitting properly.

| Yeah Rich got back with me too. I am going to have the poly mounts shaved a bit and use a new tranny cross member to see if that eliminates it. If worse comes to worse I will then space the subframe down from the chassis. Rich is definately cool to work with us to fix the issue. Customer service is #1 for bringing more business. Keep us posted!

he said he would send me a new trans x-member and new mounts ...
once I receive the new parts I'm going to ship him back the old ones and he'll reimburse me for the return shipping.
at least that's what he proposed via email.... it seems quite fair to me.

So new poly mounts or new CNC'd mounts?
