So, this is my first post and I would like to use it to introduce our 240sx time attack build. We are shooting for around 2200lb and 460hp utilizing an Factory ASA LS1 race motor. We've been at work for about 2 months.

We bought the car from a friend of mine who had put an SR20 in it and planned to drift it. Long story short he ended up parting it out and the what we ended up buying was what was left.

Here's how it started when we bought it.

For the the front suspension we had to source it because there he sold the coilovers the rear were an old school set of Apexi's

Here's how it looks currently:

We ended up cutting out the old cage and put a new one in. We also installed and solid mounted the motor.
Having the Moroso scavenge pan kept us from modifying the stock subframe and let us lower the motor considerably.

We cut about 1 1/2 inches off the fenders to run the 275's

Here is a photo on how we have done the fuel cell. we still have to sheet metal the rest of the cell box in and seal it up...

Our guys at Griffin hooked us up with a kick ass custom radiator for our application. it's a cross-flow with a built in oil cooler. it will be good for our HP range. (between 4-500hp)

Here's a general Idea on how we are planning on mounting it. We will be using the 3speed Ford Taurus fan.

Here's the Oil Tank mounted behind the passenger seating area.

RECARO FTW!... one of the most comfortable racing seats available on the market.

Here's a Custom Rear Diffuser we plan on using. it needs a lot of work but I think it will turn out nicely.

Here's the -16 and -12 lines that we're making for the scavenge pump.

We will post more as the build progresses. It's been pretty quick work considering that it's only been 2 months, there's only 2 of us, and we both work day jobs. We are planning about 2-2.5 months more and we'll be ready to start and start testing...

awesome start!

what are you going to do with the hydraulic brake since it won't be drifting?

Not sure just yet. I still may install it. Otherwise, when the build is done it may get sold.

Welcome to the forum!

I did the same engine in my race car, you might take a look, it's in the build thread section. Did you mount this with the steering rack installed? I had to drop the center section of the crossmember to clear the steering rack and Moroso pan. The good part is that the notch in the front of the pan does clear any big sway bars.

I also had to make a custom fitting from the drivers side of the oil pan to the oil tank to clear the headers and steering and mount lol. Yeah but I love my ASA engine! It's got a great rumble and a smooth easy to use power band.

oh on a sidenote, I've seen these ASA engines gain considerable horsepower by changing just the intake manifold, throttle body and injectors with a retune, they're tuned a little rich from the factory.

Very cool. I may hit you up for some info at some point. I'm always looking for inspiration and technique. We ended up mounting it with the rack in place, it clears with about >.5 inch of clearance.

The drivers side will be a fustercluck of hoses, tubes and rods.... we are planning on running the tank hoses around the front of the motor to the passenger side then through the wall to the tank I'm going to use all new stainless hoses and fittings. We'll use 2 45 degree fittings and point them forward if that makes sense. then the oil adapter we are using 2 90 degree fittings then running it along the driver side frame rail to the oil cooler/radiator then to the addapter. I'll be sure to post pictures of our progress as we get too it.

As far as horsepower goes, that's good to know. this is the first 8 cylinder that we've used.
Our main focus for using this particular motor is it's reliability. This build I want to keep it as close to factory as possible until such a time presents itself that we absolutely need more power. Only thing I plan on using is something like a FAST system to allow us to tune the factory ECU.

We did lower the rack .625" and will still have to notch the hood for the intake pipe, cause of the vented hood that we have.

As far as power, we will have plenty for now considering the weight of the car and as stiff as it is going to be. My personal LS1 is going to be 500 at the crank so i know we can get more power out of it. We may just not need it right now.

thanks for the compliments, look forward to any advice on chassis stiffening and overall setup as the build continues. I am doing all the fab and paint for this car, and it has come along way in a couple months.

kyle

Yeah I think we lowered ours about a full 1" but we also were able to lower the engine that much further to clear the hood and whatnot.

Yeah check out my old build thread, maybe give ya some ideas

Deffinitly be happy to see yours up and running Very Happy

Thanks,

Great thread read, I think I remember you selling your motor on LS1 Tech a while back. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up getting for it when you sold it?

You said you had another project you were going to do after you sold this one what did you end up doing?

shaving weight to a point. Cage is a little over done for stiffness sake, I know that. Figured we would just make it up in HP/TQ, we have plenty more we can do to that motor to make more power. The gussets in the rear are just for looks, they are 20g steel, 8 oz. in total weight.

Oh I ended up just keeping the engine, it's the same one going into my Supermade S14 haha. I'm going to convert it to wet sump though, I'm using a Holden front sump pan and race baffles from improved racing.

Yeah I'm happy to see all the time attackers here now, something I've always wanted to do too.
