This build has been all lovely put together by Doug at UP Garage in Tacoma. I appreciate all the work he has done on this with the help of his team.

This is something like my 10th 240sx, but my first Kouki and what I would have loved to get in the first place 7 years ago if I could have afforded it. But now that I've been though KA's, KA-t's, SR's and a RB25, I finally came to realize what I thought would be an ideal swap in the LS1. Kicked around the idea of an LS2 with it's better heads, cam and the LS6 intake manifold, but ultimately, at least for me, the benefits didn't out weigh the cost. Anyway, lets get some pictures going here.

This is from the day I picked up the car, on the way home. Been about 4 months now since I picked it up. Wish these things were cheaper up here, but finally managed to get this for $6500 and about 400 miles of driving. Had to drive my zenki over there to pick it up. Had the girlfriend drive the new kouki back home. heh.

The tint was super dark, the slammed ride height was breaking my neck and the cream interior was killing my eyes so I made a few little changes. I didn't and still don't have another driver seat, so I stole a seat cover from my friend to hide the hideous cream leather cracked pill of shit.

Next thing was to switch out the wheels with some I had in storage that had some good rubber still left on them. That and play with the ride height a little bit so it didn't look too 4x4.

A few weeks later I put it under the knife. Get that engine bay ready for bigger and better things.

The firewall modification. Subtle hammer love. Plus some paint.

Picked up a 2000 WS6 swap with 82k miles from a local junkyard for $3000. They even delivered it for free. Smile Took a few things apart to inspect it and see how much wear it had.

It does look to bad in there and the stock clutch has obviously been replaced so I'm just going to throw it back in there with the flywheel resurfaced till I need to step up to the LS7 clutch setup.

I got tired of looking at that painfully base model kouki so I picked these up and had them sprayed while I'm waiting for my sikky V3 oil pan and TR224 cam.

Crappy old japanese tape.

Redone with some Home Depot outdoor double sided.

Waiting to get the thing running to throw them on, but got all the mounting hardware and misc. BS I'll need to get them on the car.

I found some wheels I really liked but they didn't come in the White I was looking for. They're Tenzo's I know, but fuck it, I like the way the look.

18x8.5 +20
19x9.5 +15

A quick test on my daily driver. very bad picture.

And some cleaner in the box pictures.

Gave in and brought them to the powder coaters.

That's pretty much where I'm at now. I'm going to be keeping AC, PS and my factory OBDII port all functional. A friend of mine is going to spear head the wiring and we're probably going to make our own mounts. I think we can get the whole assembly to sit a little further back and a little lower then most kits allow. Since I'm considering a supercharger in the future I'm going to need as much room on the top of this thing as possible. For headers it looks like we're going to try and use C5 vette headers and lop them off at the collection point and then weld our own pipe to wiggle around the steering column. The oil pan, cam and ls2 timing chain should all be in sometime next week, so hopefully I can update again soon!

yeah they put the engine back pretty far. i'm using them in my build if you're interested. mine are the v1's, but i'm pretty sure otto said the v2's are the same dimensions.

actually, I just looked at your engine to see if you had the clamshell mounts you need for otto's mounts, and you don't have them. it looks like you have a motor out of a corvette. It's got the corvette batwing pan, and the corvette aluminum biscuit type mounts (I think they're also used on LS2's but don't quote me on that one). You sure it's from a WS6?

X2 batwing pan and aluminum standoffs on the block, came out of a vette.

the oil pan and the mounts are C5 because they were both being used in the FD rx7 it was recently in.

we had it in another car to make our own mounts for it too.

So a junk yard had a swapped FD?

That seems odd.

lol .. not quite. junkyard had the ws6. we had a c5 pan, mounts, headers and some other misc that my friend was getting together for putting a ls1 into his FD. got my motor, let him use it to test fit, make the mounts mount the pan on. Since I was waiting for my sikky pan to be built and shipped I wasn't in a big hurry so I wasn't worried about it. It obviously still has the vette pan on it from that test fit. And the C5 mounts with rb25 base mounts look like they're going to sit it in a pretty good location, so that's why they're still on there.

Ended up getting the new " CheaTR v.3" - 219/230 .607/.604 117 LSA. Off Idle-6800 RPM Power Band" Needed something that would pass emissions and still make some decent power. The word on the street over at LS1tech is primarly good news. People making between 30-40whp with the cam and some tuning. And grabbed a LS2 timing chain from Texas-speed. Great pricing over there and alot in stock.

Also forgot to metion I picked up a S15 Helical diff and stuck it into a 96 J30 3.9 gear set carrier. Got the adapter bolts from Nissankat. Hopefully that gets the gearing to a reasonable place for the street.

just for some reference.

Also found this sheet. doesn't have everything, but gives alot of specs.

Some more progress. Making of the mounts. Looks like what we've decided on is using the c5 corvette mounts and flipping them around, then using Z32 rubber isolators to help keep vibrations to a minimum. Got the sikky pan on there and the cheatr cam and ls2 timing chain in the motor. Also trying to use the c5 headers. Lopped them off at the collector and a friend is going to weld in some pipes to connect from there down.

current location lines the tranny hole up pretty well.

Trying to adjust the mounts to get the oil pan up a little higher than the subframe. So any bottoming out can happen on the frame and not the pan.

Here you can see it's sitting a little high. But with the hood on the throttle body is still about 3/8"s from the webbing on the hood.

This is where we got to with the mounts. lopped off the regular location from the stock subframe and slid it back and down to accommodate the c5 mounts and isolators. We're really trying to use as many stock parts as possible to keep up replacement ease and longevity. You can also see the cut off headers. Passenger side has tons of room obviously. Driver side is tight, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Going to keep working on the mounts through the weekend. Got in a solid steel driveline that'll get thrown in as soon as the trans mount is finished up. Hopefully more progress to come soon.

There was a few finished projects as my buddy's shop, so I took a few quick pictures.
